The development of powerful affinity labelling techniques has greatly simplified the identification and isolation of intact receptors. The first section of this book offers detailed experimental descriptions of these techniques and those used in conjunction with crosslinking, both methods providing a means of converting reversible into covalent ligand binding. The results obtained in applying these methods to study steroid and thyroid hormone receptors are depicted in the subsequent section whereas the concluding part of the book is devoted to the cloning and functional analysis of these receptors. Each of the seventeen contributions contains comprehensive information on the experimental technique implemented, making the book also useful as a laboratory manual.
