Front Cover
Inter-India Publications, 1989 - Nature - 301 pages
Despite the Agrarian character of our country, the literature on agricultural land use is scantly and particularly so in regard to agrarian problems of flood prone areas. Against the above backdrop, the present book by Dr. Jha fills a gap in comprehnding the agrarian problems of river basin areas. The book is based on the author's field study of nine villages in Kamla-Balan Plain, Norht Bihar. The author has presented a through, competent and analytical interpretation with the help of large number of maps, tables and sample village studies the picture of agriculture land use pattern. The study highlights the measures taken after independence for countering the floods brought by rivers in the area and their inadequacy. Further, Dr. Jha very precisely describes in detail the problems of farm management in the rural area and has assessed the quantum of minimum land needed for living in the area. This book would attract a wide readership from amongst geographers, economists, regional planners and sociologists.
