John Rockwell is senior cultural correspondent of "The New York Times. "He was the founding director of the Lincoln Center Festival and is the author of "All American Music: Composition in the Late Twentieth Century "(1983), which was nominated for a National Book Critics Circle award, and "Sinatra: An American Classic "(1984).
