The Hopewell Culture National Historical Park includes several ancient earthworks in Ohio. Mound City Group, in south central Ohio near Chillicothe, which preserves a group of prehistoric (ca. 200 B.C. to A.D. 500) Hopewell burial mounds, is a sub-unit of this park. This administrative history preserves information necessary to the history of the park & provides a historic basis for park management decisions. The primary information base for this history are NPS libraries & files of Mound City Group/Hopewell Culture & the Midwest Reg. Office, Fed. Record Centers in Phila. & Kansas City, Ohio Historical Soc., Ross County Historical Soc., Chillicothe Gazette, as well as oral history interviews.
