This is a general introduction to Tanzania in contemporary times covering a wide range of subjects . It's intended for those who are going to Tanzania for the first time and for anybody else who wants to learn some basic facts about the largest country in East Africa. Subjects covered include the country's ethnic and racial groups including the Swahili people who as a cultural entity constitute an ethnic group; the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar and the problems it faces; life in Tanzania and much more. Also covered in the book are towns and cities in all the provinces of this large country. The work includes an entire chapter on Zanzibar and another one on Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's commercial centre and largest city. One of the most important aspects of this work is its focus on the country's different ethnic groups. Every tribe - or ethnic group - in Tanzania is covered in the book including the areas where they live. Racial minorities are equally represented in the book. It is a comprehensive picture of Tanzania in terms of basic facts including general history and may be a first step for some readers towards a better understanding of a country which to many people is known for its wild life, national parks and Mount Kilimanjaro more than anything else. Tanzania has a lot more than that as you will learn from this book.
