Although credulous, egotistical, and something of a liar, Thevet provides a fascinating record of the period and an invaluable perspective on the events and opinions of the time. As the editors point out, much of his information may have come from conversations with Jacques Cartier, Sebastian Cabot, and the Sieur de Roberval.
