I grew up knowing Andre... the illustrators were close family friends of my art parents and whenever we went to visit, we would go down to the sea port and see Andre from the docks. He was followed on the news whenever he made his travels and I have 5 original books of Andre of which only one is read regularly by my son. The writing and illustrations follow each other as would an experience in Maine and very similar to the movie that is based upon the book. It's a book we never grow up from- our childhoods are remembered every time it is read and so are the hopes and dreams of the freedom that animals experience. Andre chose to bless our lives in coming up to his home every year and for that we are grateful.
