This striking treasury of playing cards, reproduced from designs used on cards between the fourteenth and early-twentieth centuries, includes nearly 500 images from a rare French volume. The elegant illustrations, approximately half of which are in full color, graced both European regular and tarot card decks and display such motifs as stylized versions of king, queen, and other face cards; musical instruments; fantasy figures; and wild fowl. The set includes: -One CD-ROM containing 496 high-quality, permission-free images―251 black-and-white images scanned at 600 dpi and saved in six different formats (TIFF, PICT, EPS, BMP, as well as Internet-ready JPEG and GIF) and 245 full-color images scanned at 300 dpi and saved in JPEG format
-A large-format 48-page book with every image on the CD-ROM printed large and clearly and numbered for easy reference

Also included on the CD-ROM is Dover Design Manager, a simple graphics editing program for Windows.
Offering an intriguing look at the historic and decorative aspects of playing cards, these eye-catching illustrations also provide artists and illustrators with a rich selection of immediately usable graphics that will add a period flair to almost any project.
