Applied Intuition in Psychotherapy: A Qualitative Exploration
The present study investigated processes related to the experience and clinical application of intuition for psychotherapists. A grounded theory analysis was applied to semi-structured written logs maintained over a period of 2 weeks of 8 psychotherapists who self-identified as using intuitive knowledge in their work. Results are reported as categories that signify participants' perspectives describing (a) the phenomenon of intuition, including the situation, experience, and content of intuition alongside (b) the applied use of intuition in psychotherapy, including influencing conditions, influencing context, intervening factors, therapist responses to intuitive knowledge, and the consequences of those responses.
