This is one funny book. I think mr. McKee is more a story teller than a writer, but he tells one heck of a funny story. The hero, Danny, lurches along through childhood from disaster to disaster, ( Daniel meets the drowned man, Danny and Ed are raised from the dead) culminating in the hilarious fireworks disaster with Athol Bentwhistle. His jousts with religion are equally funny. Then he puzzles his way into youth and summer romance with a dawning insight into the nature of things. Actually I think some of his insights are a little profound for a fifteen year old kid, eg. The stuff about DNA and geology. But the overall cast of characters, Danny, Ed, Fergus and Tommy plus the townspeople and and the summer romance atmosphere are a little poignant but drop dead funny. I give it 2 thumbs up.
