I read Banner Year at 12 because of my long standing love for horses. Normally I tried to steer clear of sappy, young romance but this one caught my attention from the intriguing cover and barely read the inside. I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but we all do. I was surprised by how much I liked it. I gobbled it up in 2 days. I loved Banner and although it was cheesy at times, Tad and Cindy's relationship. I recently reread it and still loved it. However, I don't think Cindy was a believable 16 year old unless it was the 40s. I think she would be better 13 or 14 year old. Caroline, her best friend was a little more believable but more like 15 or something. I still would recommend this book to horse lovers of all ages.
