About the author (1990)

Mary Kinzie was born in 1944 in Montgomery, Alabama. She attended college in Ohio and then went on to study at the Free University of Berlin and at Johns Hopkins. She has assembled critical books on Borges and on American little magazines as well as edited collections of contemporary poetry and fiction. Recognized for her work in both poetry and the essay by the Poetry Society of America, the Illinois Arts Council, and the MacDowell Colony, she is also the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in Poetry. Mary Kinzie is the author of four earlier books of poems, most recently Autumn Eros (1991). She is Professor of English and Director of the Creative Writing Program at Northwestern University.
