Wissenschaftliche Studie aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Ingenieurwissenschaften - Fahrzeugtechnik, Note: 1.0, Hochschule für Technik, Wirtschaft und Gestaltung Konstanz (Fakultät Maschinenbau), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Rising fuel prices and falling oil reserves necessitate the development and deployment of alternative automotive propulsion systems. The most promising of these are electric drives, facing just one major problem: the low energy density of currently available batteries entails a substantially reduced range which crucially determines the technology's market acceptance. At the same time, efforts to expedite the recharging process are constrained by the subsequent early ageing of batteries due to their limited energy flux density. These factors lead to the demand for a battery change system for automotive applications. The paper discusses parameters that determine the design, scale, potential and technical feasibility of such a system, with regard to different types of batteries and varying degree of automation. Based on this data, a sample battery change station is laid out and assessed. The study presents existing projects and investigates their strengths and weaknesses. Also, a summary is given to which political incentives shape the demand for electric vehicles. Eventually, the paper outlines the future of the market and provides suggestions for further development.
