Broadcast over regular television stations and satellite networks in 148 countries and in over 42 languages, Baywatch has captured the imagination of the viewing world like no other program in the history of the medium. But the country's prime entertainment export did not always sail on smooth seas. And its trademarks -- blue sky, white sand, rolling surf, a cast of beautiful men and women, dramatic rescues, romance -- did not always guarantee its success.

Here is the true inside story of an amazing saga, an adventure through the turbulent waves of television programming that led to the rescue of one of the world's most popular shows. Here, too, is first-hand insight into the business of Hollywood and the making of a hit TV show -- from its beginnings on the beach, to its brief prime-time career on NBC, to its precedent setting achievement in first-run syndication.
