Not your typical South African Apartheid novel, but it's brilliant nonetheless. Not too difficult a read -very simple vocabulary- the novel revolves around the life of Muriel and her employment at the Metropolitan Radio. The important thing to note about this novel is that although it takes place during the Apartheid, the message Tlali is trying to send is beyond the plot of the story. The Metropolitan Radio itself is a microcosm for the South African Apartheid, and the events that take place, and the way that she shop is run, mimics the attitudes and prejudices surrounding the Apartheid. A very interesting read, I loved it!
