About the author (2000)

Poet, singer-songwriter, novelist, playwright and screenwriter--Maria Elena Walsh has become a true Argentine national treasure. Born in 1930 in Buenos Aires, she started contributing to the literary world at the tender age of 17 with her first book of poetry. Her career boomed in the 1960's when she launched several successful children's screenplays. During this period she also created many of her zany characters and gave them life in her offbeat children's books.
