About the author (1983)

Catherine Dike was born in 1928 in Front Royal, Virginia, and educated in Geneva, Switzerland, where she moved permanently during World War II. Formerly a fine art collector, Dike first became interested in canes and walking sticks in 1970. Thirteen years later, she curated a groundbreaking cane exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York.
