About the author (2002)

Alice B. McGinty has written on diverse subjects, from a child's experiences in kindergarten (Eliza's Kindergarten Surprise and Eliza's New Pet) to an award winning biography of Charles Darwin, Darwin: With Glimpses into His Private Journal and Letters (Booklist Top Ten Biography for Youth, Orbis Picture Honor Book). She enjoys visiting schools, teaching writing workshops, and traveling. She went to India and retraced Gandhi's march. The mother of two grown children, she lives with her husband in Urbana, Illinois.

Dwight Kuhn has a degree in biology and taught school for eighteen years. His interest in photography and nature led him to be the sole photographer for 167 printed nature books for children. His work has appeared in more than 60 photo essays featured in major magazines such as: Audubon, Natural History, GEO, Smithsonian, National Geographic, National Wildlife, and Ranger Rick. His books have won several awards including SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Literature, Animal Behavior Society's Outstanding Children's Book Award, John Burrough's Book Award, New York Times Review, Editor's Choice, Parent's Choice Gold Award and Outstanding Science Trade Books for Children. Dwight is sharing his photographs and design skills to make eBooks for children.
