About the author (1992)

Betsy Haynes graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Journalism degree and was named Journalism Alumnus of the Year in 1975. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, the Authors Guild and Mystery Writers of America. She was named a Member of the Year of SCBWI in 1988. She is a five-time member of the selection committee for the juvenile division of the Edgar Allan Poe Award given annually by MWA and a three-time member of the selection committee for the annual SCBWI award. Haynes has also received a number of honors and awards for her books, beginning with COWSLIP, which was named to the national list of Books for Brotherhood in1973. Deadly Deception, was named an ALA Quick Pick, the New York Public Library Books for the Teen Age and was on the Texas Lone Star Reading List shortly after its publication in 1994. Betsy's humorous novel, The Great Mom Swap, became an ABC Saturday Night Movie staring Sid Caesar, Valerie Harper and Shelley Fabares in 1995. Haynes has published 74 juvenile and young adult books. She has written historical novels, mysteries, supernatural and ghost stories and humor. Haynes has written four series, including The Bone Chillers series, which became an ABC Saturday Morning television series in 1996.
