Collection of briefs presented in the Court of Appeal of the State of California, Second Appellate District, Division Seven: Khalid Khawar, plaintiff-respondent vs. Globe International, Inc., defendant-appellant, and Ali Ahmad aka Ali Ahmand, plaintiff-cross-appellant vs. Globe International, Inc., defendant-cross-respondent].
Khalid Khawar, ʻAlī Aḥmad, Globe International, Inc, California. District Courts of Appeal. Second Appellate District
1995 - Political Science
Khalid Khawar obtained a libel verdict against The Globe after the tabloid published an article about a book that claimed Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated by one "Ali Ahmand," not Sirhan Sirhan. The Globe illustrated its article about "Ali Ahmand" with a photograph including Khawar, thereby inaccurately connecting him to the book's allegations. The Globe argued that it was entitled to invoke the "neutral report privilege," i.e. reporting charges made by others if they do so neutrally, even if the charges later turn out to be false.
