Comparison of cultural differences between German and English business partners using three examples of daily business interaction
The amount of factors which influence an enterprise’s success has increased significantly since the business environment became more dynamic and globalized. Globally operating companies necessarily need to be aware of varying business cultures, because otherwise misunderstandings and failure will result when dealing with international business partners. Although globalization is continuously advancing, there are still a lot of national and regional specifics which are of importance to the success of business relationships with partners from another cultural background. Business etiquette is strongly dependent on culture and can vary widely between different cultures and nations. The cultural differences of English and German business partners are often widely underestimated which is due to the geographical proximity of the two countries. The awareness of differences in business etiquette is decisive and the differences between German and English business associates are rather difficult to perceive and require intensive observation. This is why it is highly important to deal with the subtle cultural differences of those two countries to avoid failings2. Hence, the objective of this term paper is to contrast and explain cultural differences between daily interactions of the German and English business community.
