Dictionary of German Slang and Colloquial Expressions

Front Cover
Barron's, 2000 - Foreign Language Study - 338 pages
Travelers with intermediate-level training in the target language, and language students on intermediate and advanced levels will value these books as keys to getting past the slang barrier and grasping the new language and its idioms as people actually speak it. More than 4,000 words or colloquial expressions seldom found in standard bilingual dictionaries are listed alphabetically and defined. A phrase or short sentence is presented in the target language to give readers a sense of the word or expression as it is used in various contexts, and is followed by the English translation. Because of the nature of their subject matter, these books necessarily contain expressions that some readers will find offensive.

User Review  - mco2003 - Overstock.com

Being German born and raised in Germany for 20 years I bought this for my husband who is trying to learn German. Slang is the hardest to understand and learn and this book has a lot of good examples. Caution though because some sayings are used differently in different parts of Germany. Read full review
