About the author (1988)

Jan Gleiter was born in Wisconsin but grew up in Northern Virginia. She began writing children's books in the 1980s and branched out into adult fiction in the mid-90s. She lives in Chicago, Illinois, and currently works in the field of educational publishing. Some of her works include: Seaside Adventure; Simon Bolivar; Benito Juarez and Lie Down with Dogs.

Thompson is the editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of Black Women. She has worked the past twenty years in education and publishing. She was also cofounder of a Chicago educational development house, Sense and Nonsense, Inc.
