In this true story from 1965, two fourth-graders forge an unlikely friendship: Lyle is hyperactive; David has muscular dystrophy. When wheelchair-bound David informs Lyle that God said their hospitalized teacher “isn't going to make it,” Lyle decides to verify God's existence--by getting David to run. When Lyle begins to twist the rules, attempting to lend David some of his own excess energy, they come face to face with life's most inspiring and painful truths.

About the author (2009)

Co-author Don Caron has been active in the Northwest arts scene for over 30 years as a pianist, teacher, composer, conductor, keyboardist, choreographer, screenwriter and sound designer/sound engineer. He was named Composer of the Year in 2002 by the WSMTNA. His screenplay The Pull was awarded 2008 Best Romantic Screenplay at the Houston WorldFest International Film Festival and the screenplay for Different Drummers received the festival's highest honor, the Grand Remington. He co-wrote the screenplay for the 1999 MGM feature film The Basket and also wrote the orchestral/choral score for the movie. Co-author Lyle Hatcher has worked as a top-tier financial consultant for over 23 years, including 11 years as a Vice President of AG Edwards and Sons, Inc. He also held positions as an investment broker for Washington Mutual and Wachovia Bank as well as a financial broker for Wells Fargo Bank.
