Disconnect: The Truth About Cell Phone Radiation, What the Industry Is Doing to Hide It, and How to Protect Your Family
"As [Disconnect] shows, cell phones may actually be doing damage to far more than our attention spans-and could, in fact, be killing us." -Salon.com.
Since the invention of radar, cell phone radiation was assumed to be harmless because it wasn't like X-rays. But a sea change is now occurring in the way scientists think about it. The latest research ties this kind of radiation to lowered sperm counts, an increased risk of Alzheimer's, and even cancer. In Disconnect, National Book Award finalist Devra Davis tells the story of the dangers that the cell phone industry is knowingly exposing us-and our children-to in the pursuit of profit. More than five billion cell phones are currently in use, and that number increases every day. Synthesizing the findings and cautionary advice of leading experts in bioelectricalmagnetics and neuroscience, Davis explains simple safety measures that no one can afford to ignore.

I can't say that I really know what constitutes a five star book. Unlike other reviewers, I'd say that this book is typical of historical reviews of scientific endeavors. In an effort to dispassionately deliver facts to the reader, it doesn't use the literary techniques to make for easy reading, intended to lead the reader to the author's point of view.
Perhaps due to age and experience, I had no trouble following the author's development of the numerous aspects of the issues of cell phone use and the breakdown of objective scientific research. This book briefly covers a great deal of information. If it had been four times as long, I wouldn't have read it. If there were dozens of books on this topic (the best evidence I can imagine, for the author's major tenet), this book would be of limited value.
Since it is basically the only book currently available on this topic, since it covers the broad spectrum of issues related to this topic in a readable way, since it isn't pedantic, I give this book 5 stars and recommend that you read it.
