About the author (1994)

JOHN DE GRUCHY is professor emeritus in Christian studies at the University of Cape Town, where he was a lecturer for thirty years. Currently, he is a senior researcher at the same University and professor extraordinary at Stellenbosch University. De Gruchy, who has a doctorate in theology as well as one in social sciences, is the author of The church struggle in South Africa and various other acclaimed publications.
