This is a story about infertility and surrogacy. Michael and Nicolas are identical twins whose mother warns them both away from any relationship with a mysterious young woman named Donella. What does their mother know? What is being kept from them? Whilst Nicholas adheres to his mother's advice, Michael is drawn to Donella and friendship soon becomes love. Nicholas eventually marries and seeks assistance to overcome his wife's infertility - turning to Michael and Donella for help. They set out with an organised plan but one by one the safeguards are eroded and boundaries are overstepped, leading to disastrous results.
