     Derek Postlethwaite, a dreamy, imaginative nine year old Catholic boy, who has to cope with his mother’s death, puberty, and his erotic fantasies.  A subconscious part of him still thirsts for maternal comforts, which represent the love he has lost.

       The novel’s eclectic characters encroach frequently into the most unlikely events of his young life, which sometimes leaves him agonized and embarrassed.

About the author (2005)

John Lalor was born in Nottingham.  After leaving school he joined Lloyds Bank.   He spent two years National Service in the Army, spending most of his service in Germany.   On demob he joined a firm of Dyers and Finishers, before starting his own textile company exporting to Eastern Europe.  He is married with six children.  Graduated with a BA honours degree in English Studies.  Other work has included teaching, postman, C.A.B. and accountancy.  He is a committed Christian, defecting from Roman Catholicism to the Anglican church.  Rock climbing, mountaineering, long distance walking, music and reading have been his main interests.  He is currently writing a sequel to his first novel.
