Eleven-year-old Peter, uncommunicative and tough, winds up in an institution for delinquent boys. Pursued by constant fear of an unnamed evil, he escapes the institution, running deep into the forests of British Columbia. There Peter encounters an old Indian, the Dreamspeaker, who, through powers of the Indian spirit world, helps him face his fears. But for Peter, it may be too late.

I reread it every few years. A deep, soulful book.

About the author (1992)

Anne Cameron got the original idea for the Lightning Catcher series after reading an article about fulgurites, which are formed when lightning strikes sand with such ferocity that it melts the particles together and forms amazing, rootlike glass tubes. What would happen, she wondered, if lightning bolts could be caught deliberately, by expert lightning catchers?

Anne Cameron lives in England.
