The work reported in this volume is the first fruit of the policy of naturalization of psychical research within the universities. This momentous study has three dimensions. Firstly, there are about three years during which experiments were conducted until they reached a huge number. Secondly, the cooperation, observation and critical judgment of many, both within and without the teaching staff of the psychological department of Duke University, have been applied to the experiments at various stages. Finally, the diversity of methods used, isolation of telepathy and clairvoyance from one another, and acquisition of data to test the hypotheses were noted.
