Full and Productive Employment and Decent Work: Dialogues at the Economic and Social Council

Front Cover
"At the 2005 World Summit, United Nations Member States strongly supported a fair globalization and the attendant goals of full and productive employment and decent work for all, particularly through policies and efforts designed to achieve the Millennium Development Goal - MDG 1 - of cutting extreme poverty and hunger in half by 2015. To propel action on this important Summit decision, the Economic and Social Council decided to devote the High-level Segment of its 2006 Substantive Session to the theme of "Creating an environment at the national and international levels conducive to generating full and productive employment and decent work for all, and its impact on sustainable development". The Segment took place in Geneva from 3 to 5 July, preceded by an Informal Preparatory Meeting in New York from 4 to 5 April ... This publication offers a comprehensive view of the Council's 2006 High-Level Segment. It compiles the proceedings - statements, issues papers and summaries of highlevel roundtable dialogues - of both the Segment and its Informal Preparatory Meeting. It also presents the current status of the reform of the Economic and Social Council, as called for by the 2005 World Summit."--P. 1.
