In this first part of the study we will give some background for the gender related research. We will also scratch the surface of gender segregation. Equality and equal opportunities are a corner-stone of Nordic society. Still, maybe even surprisingly, there are not too many female representatives in the top management of Nordic organizations. Equality between genders can be seen from four positions: equal opportunities-, meritocratic-, special contribution- and alternative values position. These concepts can be opened by asking three questions: Why there should be more female managers? Where should feminine leadership be located? How is it possible to promote more feminine ways of organizing?
