The Joseph Carlock that I am researching is the son of Jacob Carlock, son of Hanchrist Carlock.
Joseph was crippled from birth (one leg was slightly shorter than the other leg). The only
mention of Joseph in the "Marion Pomroy Carlock Book" by Mrs Hoyt. She was very elderly and sadly, probably did not know much about Joseph Carlock, Jacob Carloks 9th child.....whose mother was Margaret Ann Hurley m Joseph Carlock and his First Wife and mother of the 9 children.
Joseph Carlock was enlisted in the Civil War and is buried in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Which can be found on FindAGrave.com.
There are many Joseph Carlock's throughout the Carlock families as are other first names of Carlock children. This makes the family genealogy research very difficult unless one know's their own family genealogy.
Situations with no Allowances: The National Daughter's of The American Revolution.
Even though one know their blood-line in the Carlock Family, this organization will not accept one's family genealogy unless they can find Loop-Holes such as......certain years showing where the ancestor was located at a given time. Also, in an ancestor's life-time, how could he be a baker, or a tailor, or a laborer all in the same life-time. Throughout history, many, many, ancestors worked at varied places and jobs. Even though you have the correct lineage in order, you must come up with year spans and why did they work all those jobs in their life time.
I have found "Complacency" in not recording correctly, no matter, how old the genealogy recorded by a certain individual or whom they think they are in the family history.
No one is and nothing is infallable. Therefore, I find dissapointment in the satisfaction of the historians to make their statement with the family genealogy.
Thank you,
Jacquelyn
