This book and its companion "Generals in Gray" contain in two volumes the most authoritative and detailed biographies of the entire roster of Union and Confederate generals. In addition, almost all the entries are accompanied by a photograph. Read full review

About the author (1964)

Ezra J. Warner, also the author of Generals in Blue, died in 1974. A native of Lake Forest, Illinois, he was an investment counselor in La Jolla, California, and was well known in Civil War circles as a shrewd and tireless researcher.
