Had someone warned 18-year old Jemma Wolfseye how much worse life could be outside the borders of the reservation, things might have been different. But, then, she probably wouldn't have listened, anyway.
On legs of the deer, Jemma ran from the wintry plains of the reservation that straddles New York and Canada, to the desert wilds of Las Vegas, where her dream would inevitably begin. All she wanted was to out run her past and the wounds she nursed in fear: her mountain lion stepfather, driven by his twisted hunger, the shame of having to keep his dirty little secret; and the horrible truth about the mysterious death of her beloved grandfather. An aspiring artist, Jemma meets the beautiful and tranquil Trystan, and for the first time in her life learns what it's like to be loved.
When she finds herself in a dusty desert town with her stalker ex-boyfriend, Hunter, and Trystan, Jemma realizes her past is not something from which she can run. She never could have imagined that she would become the unwilling protagonist in an ancient story come to life. Jemma will soon learn that her life and the lives of those she loves depend upon the choices she will make. To create the future, she must face her past, learn the story that is guiding her fate, and dig deep inside to see if the deer is really as indomitable as the animal for which she was named - the wolf.
