This collection of 45 lesson plans contributed by English language arts scholars and practitioners provides activities that have been tested and proven effective with all levels of learners in middle school and high school classrooms. The activities in the collection advocate using unconventional strategies, competitive games, art and multimedia, and indirect approaches to teaching some of the difficult lessons of writing, with lesson plans that use hooks that interest students and encourage them to participate. The collection is divided into the following sections (each section contains five different writing assignments): Starting Out; Multimedia; Sentence Structure; Enriching Vocabulary; Nonfiction; Creative Writing; Point of View and Tone; Literature; and Poetry. An extensive list of recommended books, magazines, music, TV, and video is appended. (NKA)
