Handbook of Nonverbal Assessment
Psychologists, educators and related health care professionals spend enormous amounts of time and energy evaluating the abilities of children and adults they serve through assessment. However, in an increasingly diverse culture, verbally-laden instruments cannot be used for many children and adults, including those with speech and/or language deficits, hearing impairments, emotional problems, as well as those who cannot be evaluated with tests which rely on standard English. The increase in cultural diversity requires school and mental health professionals to serve this growing community of nontraditional learners. The goal of Handbook of Nonverbal Assessment is to describe the current assessment strategies and related best practices to professionals who serve individuals from diverse cultures or those who have difficulty using the English language. In general, the intent of Handbook is: -to provide broad, yet detailed coverage of the most relevant information, including the psychological, sociological, and biological contexts for assessment; -to describe best practices in developing fair(er) tests; -to outline the best and most commonly used individual and group tests of cognition; and, -to develop strategies for nonverbal assessment of related constructs, including achievement, personality, and neuropsychological functioning. Handbook of Nonverbal Assessment will be a valuable resource for school psychologists, special educators, speech and hearing specialists, rehabilitation counselors, as well as graduate-level students of school psychology and child and family psychology.
