The book provides information for the reader to understand how learning theories regarding the import of culture on school learning, augment teaching the way students learn; i.e., incorporating their cultural funds of knowledge and learning styles. This book is particularly useful regarding the NCLB requirement of enhancing subgroup academic performance. The book theorizes an alternative pedagogy to augment traditional instruction for underperforming urban students; and may be used in pre-service teacher training programs; and for in-service urban teachers to improve student performance.
