About the author (1985)

Simon Walker was Reader in History at the University of Sheffield until his death in 2004. Mike Braddick is Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Sheffield. G. L. Harriss, now retired, was Fellow and Tutor in History at Magdalen College, Oxford.
