This is a phenomenal discussion of the various interpretative positions occupied by Dilthey and company. If you want to get that one concise, readable, beautifully explained discussion of the agony Dilthey went through in forming his hermeneutic, this is the book for you. Wilson is a superb writer, intimately familiar with the debate. He argues will skill, concision and brilliance. A joy to read, still on my shelf after some thirty years.
