Important historical work about Chicago
Practically unknown, this enormous work represents the history of Chicago from the viewpoint of a nineteenth-century author who spared nothing in order to
collect as much information as he could. Anyone who is interested in the history of the city will find Andreas's compilation fascinating to no end.

Fabulous resource! As for the user who eloquently penned the one-word review, "sucks," I wish he could articulate his dissatisfaction a little more clearly.....but I adore this book. It is 900 pages of sheer fabulosity. Overly detailed? Yes! More than you ever wanted to know about Chicago between 1870-1880? Probably. But Mr. Andreas preserved a snapshot of this magnificent city that is utterly amazing in its exhaustive detail. This is not a book intended to be read cover-to-cover....but for cataloging the historical record, we owe Mr. Alfred Theodore Andreas (great name, BTW) a huge debt. This book was a labor of love. I have downloaded and consulted it again and again when I need some arcane piece of Chicago trivia. Beautiful etchings as well.
