I Want to Be a BucketI agree with the author that I Want to Be a Bucket is a clever little tale that uses the emotional breakdown of a sponge, to show us that we have a special purpose in life. In addition, the book appears not to have gender bias and could be generalized to fit both male and female students. His choice of the blue sponge and green bucket could imply that we may feel blue about our situation and feel that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. However, in use with this book, teachers could capitalize on this misconception of reality as they help young children develop positive self-concepts. Having taught in the elementary school, served as principal and taught in higher education as a teacher educator, I have no reservations in recommending this book for young children.
