About the author (1977)

George H. Sage is a Professor Emeritus from the Departments of Kinesiology and Sociology at the University of Northern Colorado. He has a B.A. in social science and physical education from the University of Northern Colorado, a M.A. in secondary education from the University of Northern Colorado, and an Ed.D. in social foundations of physical education from UCLA. He is the author or editor of 14 books and over 100 scholarly articles and chapters in books. Among his books are: Sport and American Society (3 editions); Sociology of North American Sport (7 editions); Power and Ideology in American Sport (2 editions). He is a former president of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport and the National Association for Physical Education in Higher Education. He was the recipient of the Distinguisshed Scholar Award at the University of Northern Colorado and the Alliance Scholar Award from the Amereican Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
