About the author (1990)

Birney Imes, an American photographer and author, was born in 1951 in Columbus, Miss. A self-taught photographer, Imes has received two Individual Artist Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and two Photography awards from the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters in 1987 and 1990. Imes's most noted works are all collections of photographs. They include Juke Joint: Photographs; Partial to Home; and Whispering Pines.
