About the author (2020)

Michelle Williams was born and raised in Kentucky. She is number seven of eight children. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration and Master of Education in Counseling Psychology from the University of Louisville. She has worked in higher education for the past 12 years. She is also an author, screenplay writer, entrepreneur, and filmmaker.Michelle started writing poetry in her 20's. She married and had a daughter. With a background in education, Michelle knew the importance of reading books to her child. She started reading to her daughter very early on. She read hundreds of children's books and noticed a common theme; most of them did not have main characters of color. She transitioned from writing poetry to writing children's books. She has made it her mission to write books that represent diversity and multiculturalism. "I read many books to my daughter and noticed very few had characters that looked like us," Michelle said. "I want my daughter and other children of color to read books and watch movies with characters that look like them."Her first published book, Little Max in Santa's Red Sack, is a story about a precocious little six-year old, African American boy comes up with a plan to go with Santa on his annual Christmas Eve sleigh ride. She is also completing her first documentary about her an African American man whose nightclub remains a cornerstone in his community after 25 years of being in business. Bojana Stojanovic is an illustrator curently living in Belgrade, Serbia. Her art is inspired by nature and all kinds of animals which are her favourite subjects to draw. She found her home in children's publishing. She has illustrated numerous books both for children and for adults. She loves experimenting in new media, traditional and digital.
