Not a bad survey of what math has done in the past and where it appears to be headed (as of the mid-1960s). I wish it had had a little more coverage of functional analysis, but OK as such books go. Read full review

About the author (1968)

Mark Kac was a distinguished mathematician formerly of the Rockefeller Institute and Cornell University. Stanislaw M. Ulam was a well-known nuclear scientist and mathematician who worked on the Manhattan Project and taught at Harvard University and the Universities of Wisconsin and Colorado.
