Roger Clapp was born in Salcom, Devon, England, 6 April 1609. He immigrated to America in 1630 and settled in Dorchester, Massachusetts. He married Johanna Ford (1617-1695), daughter of Thomas Ford, in 1633. They had ten sons and four daughters. He served in both civil and military offices, as captain of the militia, representative for the town, and authorized to join persons in marriage. He died in Boston 3 Feb. 1690/91.
