About the author (1998)

R. Jackson Marshall, III, received B.A. and M.A. degrees from Wake Forest University. He is a native North Carolinian and the grandson of a World War I veteran. He specializes in the study of the state's military heritage and is a historian and deputy director of the North Carolina Museum of History.
