Metonym: Artwork by Nicholas Mccalip
This is a newly available survey of Nicholas McCalip's work from 2002-2008. In these the artist and his subjects are essentially storm-chasers documenting the effects of exposure on the psyche. Significant tropical storms and hurricanes are listed next to the print title and date and are designated by an asterisk. Please enjoy this selection that highlights the artist's consistent use of tension, turbulence, and gesture to evoke an emotional state. That is what informs his unique visual metonymy, a contextual reflection of inward complexity. This work is not conceptual it is solely contextual and uses a subtle miasma (weather, currents) to suggest meaning.
