This is the first book in English on the popular music of Vietnam—a songbag of Vietnamese music.

The Musics of Vietnam is a popular work, on the order of the John and Alan Lomax collection of American folk songs. Pham Duy spent twenty years traveling throughout Vietnam collecting regional folk music. His collection represents the range as well as the diversity of the Vietnamese people—North, South, and Central.
